TV guide (EPG)

What's on now, what's on next and what's already aired — when your list sends it.

Where the guide comes from

The programme guide, or EPG, isn't created by Vuzo: it comes from your provider, in a format called XMLTV. With an Xtream Codes list, Vuzo fetches it automatically from the list's own server — you don't have to do anything. With an M3U list, the guide address may be included in the list or given to you separately; in that case, enter it in the EPG address field when editing the line.

Vuzo downloads the guide and stores it on the device. Because it holds several days of listings for hundreds of channels, it can be a large file; on a slower box, the first load takes a few seconds.

How to read it

  • In the channel list, each channel shows the programme that's on and how much time is left.
  • The grid shows several channels side by side, hour by hour. With the remote, the arrows move between programmes; OK opens that programme's menu.
  • In the programme menu you can watch (if it's on), remind me (if it's still to come), record or watch from the start (if your provider has an archive).
  • The guide search finds a programme by name, across all channels.

Reminders

Mark a programme that hasn't started yet and Vuzo alerts you before it begins, even if the app is closed. In the alert you choose to watch now or dismiss it. You can also create keyword alerts — for example “Formula 1” — and Vuzo lets you know when a programme with that word is on one of the channels you usually watch.

Programmes that have already aired (catch-up)

Some providers keep the last few days of some channels. On those channels, past programmes appear in the guide with the option to watch from the start. If the option doesn't appear, the provider has no archive for that channel.

The guide doesn't show or is wrong

  1. Channels with no guide: the provider has no listings for those channels, or the channel ID in the list doesn't match the one in the guide. Only the provider can fix this.
  2. Wrong times: check the device's time zone. If it's correct, the offset comes from the provider's guide.
  3. Empty guide on an M3U list: ask your provider for the XMLTV address and enter it in the line's EPG field.
In a long guide, the listings for the channels you watch most appear first. If a channel you use a lot has no guide, it's worth asking your provider: it's often just a mismatched ID on their side.
