Before you start
Vuzo isn't in the Amazon store, so you install it with Downloader, a free app available in the Amazon store itself that downloads files from an address. You'll need your Firestick remote and about five minutes.
1. Install Downloader
- On the Fire TV home screen, go to the magnifying glass (Search).
- Type Downloader and choose the app with the orange icon.
- Press Get or Download and wait for it to install.
2. Turn on developer options
On recent Fire TV versions, this section is hidden until you turn it on:
- Go to Settings → My Fire TV → About.
- Press the device name (the first line) seven times in a row, until a message says you're now a developer.
- Go back: My Fire TV now shows Developer Options.
3. Give Downloader permission
In Developer Options → Install unknown apps, turn on Downloader. On some models the option is called “Apps from Unknown Sources” and is a single switch. Only Downloader needs this permission.
4. Download and install Vuzo
- Open Downloader. The first time, allow access to files.
- In the address field, type
vuzoplayer.com/downloads/vuzo.apkand press Go. - When the download finishes, choose Install and then Open.
- Downloader asks whether you want to delete the installation file: you can delete it — the app is already installed and this frees up space.
5. First steps
Sign in or create an account with your email and add your list. To keep Vuzo close at hand, in the Fire TV app list press the menu button (three lines) on the icon and choose Move to put it in the first row.
Updates
Vuzo lets you know when there's a new version and handles the download. If Fire TV asks for permission again, it's the same one as in step 3, this time for Vuzo. Your lines, favourites and playback positions stay in your account and aren't lost.
If something goes wrong
- Downloader says it can't find the address: check that you typed
vuzoplayer.com/downloads/vuzo.apkwith no spaces and with the slashes between the words. You don't need to typehttps://. - “Developer Options” doesn't appear: repeat step 2 — it's seven presses in a row on the device name, without leaving the screen.
- “App not installed”: this is usually a lack of space. Check Settings → My Fire TV → About → Storage, delete apps you don't use and try again.
- The picture freezes or is slow to start: a Firestick on Wi-Fi far from the router struggles a lot. A wired Ethernet adapter for Fire TV solves most cases.
