Install on an Android or Google TV box

This also works for Android projectors, phones and tablets.

What you need

  • An Android device: Android TV box, TV or box with Google TV, Android projector, phone or tablet.
  • An internet connection — by cable, on a box, whenever possible.
  • A Vuzo account (you create it in the app itself, with your email) and then your list.

1. Download the app

The app is downloaded from our website, at https://vuzoplayer.com/downloads/vuzo.apk. On a box, the easiest way is to use a download app (such as Downloader) or the box's browser and type in that address. On a phone, just open the address in the browser.

2. Allow the installation

Because the app doesn't come from the device's store, Android asks for permission to install it. Permission is given to the app that did the download (the browser or Downloader), and only once:

  • Android TV: usually under Settings → Device Preferences → Security & restrictions → Unknown sources, then turn on the app you used for the download.
  • Google TV: first turn on developer options (Settings → System → About → press “Android TV OS build” several times); then go to Settings → Apps → Security & restrictions → Unknown sources.
  • Phone: Android itself asks when you open the file and takes you to the right option.

Menu names vary a little from brand to brand, but the path is always the same: allow the app that did the download.

Google Play Protect may show a warning because the app doesn't come from the store. You can choose Install anyway. The app downloaded from vuzoplayer.com is ours.

3. Install and open

  1. Open the downloaded file and choose Install.
  2. When it's done, choose Open. Vuzo also appears in the box's app list.
  3. Create an account or sign in with your email. On a TV, you can type with the on-screen keyboard or with voice on the remote, if it has it.
  4. Add your list: see how to add a list.

Updates

When there's a new version, Vuzo lets you know when you open it and handles the download. If Android asks for permission again, it's the same one as in step 2. Your lines, favourites and playback positions are saved in your account and aren't lost when you update.

Tips for your box

  • Connect the box with a network cable if you can: it makes the biggest difference to picture stability.
  • On boxes with little memory, try Light mode in the settings.
  • The BACK button always goes back one step; on the home screen it asks whether you want to exit.
