Where things stand
LG TVs don't run Android: they run webOS, LG's own system. That's why the Vuzo Android app can't be installed on them, and a version built for webOS is needed.
That version exists and is being tested on an LG OLED TV, with the standard remote and with the Magic Remote (the pointer remote). To reach the LG Content Store, the LG TV app store, the app has to pass LG's own review, which tests dozens of points: start-up, remote control, on-screen keyboard, subtitles, playback at different resolutions, among others. We're working through that list.
Once the app is available in the store, this page will have the installation guide — it'll be a matter of searching for “Vuzo” in the LG Content Store and installing it, like any other app.
How to watch Vuzo on an LG today
The simplest way is to connect an Android or Fire TV device to the TV, through an HDMI port:
- an Android TV or Google TV box — see the box guide;
- a Firestick — see the Firestick guide.
Connecting a box or Firestick to an LG, step by step
- Plug the device into a free HDMI port on the TV and into power (the Firestick plugs straight into the port; use the extender that comes in the box if it doesn't fit).
- On the LG remote, press the input button and choose the HDMI port you used.
- Follow the device's installation guide and install Vuzo.
- If the picture is cut off at the edges, look in the LG picture settings for the “Original” or “Just Scan” aspect ratio option.
With the TV on that device's HDMI input, Vuzo works exactly as it does on a box, with the box's remote. Many LG TVs can control the device connected via HDMI with the LG remote itself (the SIMPLINK / HDMI-CEC feature), so you don't have to juggle two remotes.
What's different in the LG version
The account is the same: your lines, favourites, profiles and “Continue watching” positions appear on the LG just as they do on your other devices. Some features depend on what LG's system allows an app to do, so when the app is released, we'll list here what is and isn't available on LG.
Quick questions
Do I have to pay again to use it on an LG?
No. The licence belongs to the account, not the device. The LG counts as one more device towards your plan's limit.
What about other brands, like Samsung?
Samsung TVs run Tizen, which also needs its own version. For now, the solution is the same: a box or a Firestick connected via HDMI.
Can I be notified when it's out?
Yes: write to us and we'll let you know when the app is in the LG Content Store.
